At this year’s Packaging Innovations Show, Colpac, one of the UK’s leading designers and manufacturers of food packaging solutions, will launch its latest product under the fully compostable Zest™ range of paperboard food packaging – the Compostable Ovenable Tray.
The only pulp bagasse tray which is completely mono-material, not laminated and suitable for oven and microwave use. Completely environmentally friendly and easy to compost. Ideal for take away and home-delivery market.
Ideal for any food service operator serving an increasingly vast amount of food-to-go dishes, the Compostable Ovenable Tray, which is created from 100% sugarcane fibres, is an efficient alternative to traditional trays which were typically made from Cpet, polystyrene or aluminium.
In keeping with all products under the Zest™ range, the Compostable Ovenable Tray is fully recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable within 90 days, to EN 13432 certification.
Suitable for noodles, pasta, stir-fry or rice dishes the tray is durable enough to withstand a meal of up to 500ml. Heat resistant to 210°C/410°F in an oven or microwave, the Compostable Ovenable Open Tray can be customised, depicting the food service operator’s brand message, or dish ingredients, with a label or sleeve.
Colpac’s Zest™ range was developed in response to growing demand from food service operators today who are striving for packaging which ticks a multitude of boxes. From being eye-catching enough, while keeping a product fresh, to being fully recyclable while serving a growing range of food-to-go dishes.
Significantly, in response to the huge array of food-to-go dishes on the market today, the range consists of a variety of product styles, which can be customised to suit a customer’s exact requirements. Suitable for any food service operator, from delicatessens, salad bars and bakeries, to coffee shops and canteens Zest™ can be used to serve a multitude of dishes, from sandwich packs to tuck-top salad and wrap packs.
Created from wood-pulp, the Zest™ range includes products in printed Kraft effect board for a natural look. Offering optimum product protection, while enhancing freshness, the range is grease resistant.
As customers gauge the freshness of a product from its appearance, packaging, particularly within the ‘food to go’ arena, needs to offer excellent visibility. Consequently, Zest™ features a recyclable ‘window’ which is made from acetate, a film produced from wood pulp. Significantly, the acetate doesn’t need to be separated from the paperboard so the entire pack can be put in the composting bin as a single unit.
