Colpac is excited to unveil updates to its food platter ranges. Expanding menus showcasing a variety of new foods need platters that offer versatile solutions for food developers and chefs.

The team has developed its traditional food platters with a focus on speed of construction and visibility. Colpac also understands the requirement to offer value to customers, so is excited to launch its light platters which support cost reduction. Each range includes four base sizes, with sleeves and lids that work interchangeably across these. The smaller, light platter bases also work as cost effective ¼ and ½ inserts for the large bases across both ranges.

The platter trays have been aligned to neatly fit standard catering sandwich configurations. The large accommodates 12 sandwich rounds (48 quarters), the small holds 6 sandwich rounds (24 quarters), and the extra small fits 3 sandwich rounds (12 quarters). A medium size is available too, which is ideal for customers looking to package artisan bread sandwiches or other foods such as pastries or samosas for workplace lunches.

The platters also provide a packaging option for businesses that cater for occasions such as birthday celebrations, baby showers, or other home catering events with foods such as cupcakes, pastries, sweet treats, or fruit displays.

Improved Operational Efficiency

Catering businesses have limited time and space to construct and fill platters for daily delivery and collection. Colpac’s new platters enable quicker construction to streamline back-of-house operations, having been designed with simpler manual assembly in mind. This is evident in the updated sleeve design which now has a smooth, self-erecting crash-lock at one end and a simple tuck closure at the other.

The traditional range retains the pop out handles which ensures that the platter bases can be hygienically inserted and removed from their sleeves. The new light range features a new, lift off lid that can be removed from the top of the base to reveal the food contents. The platters can also be easily labelled for tamper evidence, allergen and ingredient information, or marketing messaging, supporting both hygiene needs and brand recognition.

Material Sourcing and Sustainability

Aligned with Colpac’s commitment to sustainability and newly released packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR) regulations, the new platter combinations utilise less material, and the light options reduce the paperboard even further. To further reduce the packaging impact, the window weight has been reduced across all lines.

The new platter products are recyclable as they are classified as ‘green’ in the Recycling Assessment Methodology. As part of the ‘paper and board’ material category for pEPR, including sleeves and lids (once the window has been removed), they are also subject to lower pEPR fees.
