Packaging Industry Memberships

We have various packaging industry memberships and are actively involved in associations that support the packaging sector.

These memberships provide valuable resources, guidance, and networking opportunities across many topics. They facilitate our contribution to industry standards, environmental initiatives, and policy discussions in packaging and manufacturing.

Foodservice Packaging Association

The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) is the representative voice of the industry, promoting the responsible manufacturing, sourcing, distribution, usage and disposal of food and foodservice packaging.

The FPA engages with all four UK governments representing the industry with key departments and committees including Defra, HM Treasury and BEIS. The FPA collaborates with other trade associations with a strong packaging remit such as INCPEN, UK Hospitality, the British Takeaway Campaign, Pack2Go Europe, Confederation of Paper Industries, British Plastics Federation and the Packaging Federation.

Being members of the FPA gives us access to guidance around policy and compliance. The FPA also provides a barometer on UK legislation and advocates for adherence to this across the industry.

The British Sandwich & Food to Go Association (BSA) represents those businesses where sandwiches form a core part of the food-to-go offer.

The BSA sets technical standards and encourages innovation and excellence while providing a collective voice for all involved in the making, distribution and retailing of food-to-go.

As members of the BSA, we have opportunities to attend trade events and to advise the industry on topics such as recycling guidelines.

We are members of BPIF, and BPIF cartons; a subsidiary of the organisation which is focused on folding cartons and other packaging.

As members, we have access to industry specific business support and opportunities for networking and collaboration. BPIF also actively supports us with expertise in policy issues that impact the packaging sector, which we can then share with our customers.

We have also been awarded both health and safety and environmental seals of excellence from BPIF.

Open 3P

The Open 3P data standard provides a common protocol to categorise and describe packaging, with the aim of making the packaging supply chain more data-enabled and unlocking the power of data to support sustainability.

We are part of the Open 3P Standard Custodian Board and are therefore involved in the development of the Open 3P Charter. This provides a route for companies across the packaging supply chain to signal their commitment to the principle of standardised, shareable data.

As custodian board members, we support the use of common terminology with our customers across the supply chain. The Open 3P data standard could also help us and our customers to recalibrate and standardise recycling infrastructure to support upcoming changes in legislation.

PackUK is the scheme administrator for the UK’s Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging (pEPR). The PackUK Steering Group brings together representatives from across the packaging value chain to support the development of the Scheme Administrator.

As the manufacturing representative on the steering group, we are committed to supporting the industry and providing an informed perspective to the development of pEPR and its governance. Our involvement gives us the opportunity to share our material and design expertise with government and to demonstrate the impact of the policy for manufacturers and our customers.

Our ESG Director, Talia Goldman, is a co-chair and co-founder of the alliance, and represents Colpac in high-level industry discussions to advocate for paperboard.
